A large power spike in Glasgow early on Saturday morning has caused more than 20 traffic signals to fail.

The outage, at around 6am, knocked out the lights across the north of Glasgow particularly in the city centre and Cowcaddens area.

The traffic lights remained off as Glasgow City Council organised a contractor to attend and restore each of the 21 sets individually.

Given the number of signals involved, the council said it would take some time and road users were urged to exercise caution when approaching “all dark” signals on Saturday morning.

As of 10am, engineers had restored five sets of lights.
