Power cut in city centre shuts down Glasgow trains and departure boards at rush houriStock

A power cut in Glasgow city centre shut down train services at rush hour.

Passengers faced a black out of the screens and lighting at Glasgow Central station on Monday evening.

Train services continued to run from the high-level station, however low-level journeys were fully suspended.

Network Rail confirmed after 6.20pm the power was restored, however the boards remain off.

The rail company said: “A power cut in Glasgow city centre is affecting Glasgow Central station.

“Trains are still running to and from the high-level station, though our lighting and departure boards are affected.

“No trains will stop at Glasgow Central low-level until power is restored.”

They later added: “Power has been restored to Glasgow Central, and trains are now stopping at the low-level station again.

“Bear with us while we get the high-level departure board up and running.”

ScotRail said in a post: “We’ve been advised that there is a Scottish Power fault which is affecting services from Glasgow Central high level and low level stations.

“We’re currently unable to call at Glasgow Central low level station. Customers should travel from Arygle Street or Anderston stations.

“Train services from the high level station are currently unaffected.”

An update at 6.20pm read: “Scottish Power has confirmed the power has been restored and train services can call at Glasgow Central.”
