Police have issued a warning to football fans ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash after disorder broke out in Glasgow city centre last month.
Fans clashed in the city centre ahead of the League Cup final between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park on December 15, with missiles thrown at police and one officer injured.
Footage on social media showed large groups of supporters running down Argyle Street carrying pyrotechnics while being pursued by officers.
Police have since issued CCTV images of 19 people as part of the ongoing investigation.
Chief Superintendent Phil Davison has warned fans attending the derby at Ibrox on Thursday that “violence will not be tolerated”.
He said in a statement: “An appropriate policing plan is in place to maintain public safety and minimise any disruption to the community ahead of the fixture between Rangers v Celtic at Ibrox Stadium, in Glasgow on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
“We continue to work closely with a range of partners ahead of the match, including both clubs.
“The use of weapons or violence will not be tolerated, and officers will take action where necessary to ensure safety.”
“We are continuing our enquiries into disorder in Glasgow on Sunday, 15 December, 2024, prior to the Celtic v Rangers Cup Final at Hampden.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1100 of 15 December, or call anonymously Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
