Police warn of ‘health risks’ after medication stolen from Ayrshire pharmacy in overnight raid STV News

Medication has been stolen during an overnight raid on a pharmacy in Ayrshire, police have said.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene at the premises on Eglinton Street in Beith at around 5:00 on Tuesday, May 24 following reports the building had been targeting in a theft.

Initial investigations found a “quantity of medication” had been removed from inside, with officers warning the substances pose a “serious health risk” to anyone who ingested it without medical approval.

Police Scotland said they were unable to confirm the type or strength of medication stolen in the theft.

They have since launched an appeal to locate the stolen items and trace those responsible.

Detective constable Ross Keenan, of Saltcoats CID, said: “Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and we are checking all available CCTV to trace those responsible.

“I would urge anyone who has information or who may live in the area and heard or saw anything suspicious to contact police immediately.

“Likewise, if anyone was in the area and has dash-cam footage, CCTV or doorbell cameras I would encourage you to check your footage for anything of relevance.”

DC Keenan added: “The medication stolen could pose a health risk to anyone who ingests it without prior medical approval from their doctor.

“I would strongly advise members of the public to only take medication if it has been prescribed by their doctor and administered by a pharmacist.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0379 of 24 May, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
