Probe launched after 'deliberate' car fire spreads to house

There were no injuries after the blaze in Glasgow at 3.25am on Wednesday.

A car fire that spread to a house in Glasgow is being treated as deliberate by police.

Emergency services were called to a property in the Springkell Avenue area of Shawlands at around 3.25am on Wednesday.

The fire was extinguished and there were no reported injuries.

Officers confirmed the fire is being treated as deliberate amid an ongoing investigation.

STV News understands that the incident is not being treated as linked to Operation Portaledge, which was launched to crack down on serious organised crime after a gang feud ignited in March 2025.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.25am on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, we were made aware of a car being on fire which spread to a property in the Springkell Avenue area of Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished. There were no reported injuries.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.59am on Wednesday, 18 February, to reports of a dwelling fire at Springkell Avenue, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene and firefighters worked to extinguish a fire affecting the property.

“No casualties were reported and crews left the scene at 12.26pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
