Police Scotland receive complaint after video of arrest goes viral on social media

Police Scotland has received a complaint following a video of an arrest which was shared by a number of social media users.

Officers attended an address in the Loanhead Crescent area of Newarthill, North Lanarkshire on Tuesday morning as part of an investigation.

A Ring doorbell video, shared by accounts such as Tommy Robinson, shows a heated exchange between a man and two officers as they leave the property.

The pair turn around and arrest the individual under section 38 Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010, relating to threatening and abusive behaviour.

Police Scotland has confirmed that a 42-year-old man has been charged in connection with breach of the peace and resisting arrest.

The force has received a complaint regarding the arrest, which is being assessed by Police Scotland’s Professional Standards Department.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On the morning of Tuesday, September 1, 2026, officers attended at a property to carry out enquiries in the Loanhead Crescent area of Newarthill.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with breach of the peace and resisting arrest. He was the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

“We have received a complaint in relation to this incident which is being assessed by Police Scotland’s Professional Standards Department.”
