Police Scotland is investigating alleged fraud at Hamilton Academical Football Club.
The force received a report on May 23 this year and said “information is being assessed, and enquiries are ongoing”.
The League One club, who were playing in the Premiership as recently as five years ago, have suffered financial troubles in recent years and posted a £1.8m loss on the club’s latest accounts.
The Scottish Professional Football League has in the last six months deducted points and fined the Club for failing to pay HMRC dues as well as player wages, providing misleading information on the ownership of their stadium and other rule breaches including paying players while under a transfer embargo that said they were only allowed to field amateurs.
The Scottish Football Association ruled this week that club owner Seref Zengin and director of football Gerry Strain are not considered “fit and proper” people to run football clubs and have said that they should leave any position of control, influence or administration at the club.
Hamilton Academical FC has been contacted for comment.
