Police probing 'deliberate' building fire after homes evacuated 

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire in Springburn Way on Sunday

Police are treating a fire that broke out at a building in the north of Glasgow as “deliberate”.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire on Springburn Way around 4.50pm on Sunday.

Police confirmed several neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution while fire crews from four appliances and an aerial appliance tackled the blaze on the second floor.

Police said the fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.

There were no casualties and crews left the scene at 9.28pm after ensuring the area was made safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.52pm on Sunday, September 27, to reports of a building fire at Springburn Way in Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and a high-reach vehicle to the scene, where firefighters extinguished a fire affecting the building’s second floor.

“There were no casualties and crews left the scene at 9.28pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
