Police are treating the death of a man found injured in the street alongside another person as “suspicious”.
Emergency services were called to Braeside Crescent at around 4.45am following reports of two men being found injured.
A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 35-year-old man was also taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment, where his condition has been described as not life-threatening.
Extensive investigations are underway, and a post-mortem examination is set to be carried out.
Police officers remain in attendance, and Vere Road, Braeside Crescent, Beechwood, Dormiston Road, and Craignethan View are closed to the public as investigations take place.
Detective inspector Vicki Douglas: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time. They are being supported by specialist officers.
“If you were in the area at the time of this incident and saw anything suspicious, then please get in touch.
“No matter how small that piece of information might be, please come forward.
“In particular, I would ask that people in the surrounding areas check their private CCTV or doorbell footage to see if it has captured anything of significance.
“Officers are carrying out a number of enquiries at this time so there will be an increased police presence in the area. Anyone who has concerns, or information, is encouraged to approach these officers.”
Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
