A police officer is to stand trial accused of running over a man and endangering his life.

Elizabeth Begley, 41, allegedly assaulted a man in Springburn on November 17, 2023.

Court papers state that Begley was behind the wheel of an unmarked police vehicle.

It is claimed that Begley repeatedly drove at the man and struck him on the legs which caused him to fall onto the bonnet.

The charge goes on to say Begley continued to drive forward while the victim was on the bonnet to his injury and danger of life.

Begley faces an alternative charge of culpable and reckless conduct.

A second charge claims Begley failed to stop and give her name and address.

A third charge says Begley failed to report the matter to a police station as soon as reasonably practicable.

Begley pled not guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A trial was set for May this year, and a further hearing was set to take place in April.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 41-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection with assault and road traffic offences, which occurred in Eccles Street, Glasgow on Friday, November 17, 2023.

“She appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 30, 2025.”
