Police are hunting a group of people involved in disorder ahead of a match between Ayr United and Partick Thistle that left an officer injured.

Police were called to River Street in Ayr around 7.15pm on May 9 after the disturbance broke out among a “large group” of people before kick-off.

An officer suffered minor injuries before the group dispersed.

An investigation has now been launched to trace those involved in the “totally unacceptable behaviour”.

Chief inspector Stuart Dougan said: “A proportionate policing plan was in place for the match and no further issues were identified, but I want to make it clear we have a zero-tolerance approach to disorder such as that seen at River Street.

“Officers acted swiftly in challenging circumstances to deal with what amounted to totally unacceptable behaviour.

“A dedicated team of officers are carrying out enquiries to identify those involved and appropriate action will be taken.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 3236 of May 9.
