Police officer in hospital and rail staff 'assaulted' at train station

British Transport Police were sent to Queen Street station after staff reported intoxicated members of the public being abusive.

A police officer had to be taken to hospital after an alleged assault at a Glasgow train station.

British Transport Police were sent to Glasgow Queen Street station around 9pm on Sunday after staff reported “intoxicated members of the public being abusive”.

An officer had to be taken to hospital following the incident but has since been discharged.

Rail staff were also allegedly assaulted.

Two men in their 20s have been charged in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police confirmed one man was charged with two counts of assault on rail staff, one count of assault of an emergency worker and one count of threatening and abusive behaviour and resisting arrest.

The second man was charged with one count of assault of an emergency worker, one count of threatening and abusive behaviour and one count of resisting arrest.

ScotRail services in and out of the station were disrupted for an hour while in the incident was dealt with.
