Police launch witness appeal as teenager fights for life in hospital after being knocked down in Glasgow

Witnesses have been urged to come forward as a teenager fights for his life in hospital after being struck by a car in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to Maryhill Road in Glasgow at around 7.35pm on October 12 after receiving reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a car

The 18-year-old man was walking along the nearby footpath when he was struck by a black Mercedes E220 car travelling westbound.

Medical teams transported the pedestrian to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The 41-year-old male driver and the three passengers were unharmed following the incident. Officers closed the road heading northbound for around seven and a half hours before it was reopened at 3.35am on Sunday, October 13.

Investigators are now asking witnesses to come forward.

Constable Scott MacKenzie said: “This can be quite a busy junction and so we would ask anyone who was in the area, who has not yet spoken to officers but believes they may have information that could help our enquiry, to contact us.

“We would also be interested in any dashcam footage from the road at the time.

“A member of the public who may have witnessed the incident was spoken to by officers at the time and officers are keen to speak to them again.

“Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote incident number 3162 of Saturday, October 12 2024 when calling.”
