Police launch ‘urgent’ search for missing man from Wishaw Police Scotland

Police have launched an “urgent” appeal to trace a missing man from North Lanarkshire.

Derek Smart was last seen in the Motherwell area around 8.30am on Wednesday, March 20.

Police described the 34-year-old as being 5ft 8ins tall, medium build with dark slicked back hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and dark trousers.

The force said that Mr Smart has access to a silver Ford Ranger vehicle with the registration number HK73 XDD.

The appeal said that the 34-year-old could be in the Edinburgh area and they are working to ensure his “safety”.

Sergeant Danielle O’Hara said: “We need to ensure that Derek is safe and well and are asking any members of the public who may have seen him to pass this information to police.

“We would also urge Derek to please get in touch with someone to confirm that he is ok.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0639 of March 20.”
