Police say enquiries are ongoing after a van was set ablaze on a residential street in Ayr.

Emergency services received reports of a van on fire just after 1am in the Russell Drive/Viewfield Road area of the town.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed one appliance to the scene, and crews extinguished the fire.

Police have now confirmed the fire is being treated as deliberate and enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson said: “Around 1.10am on Thursday, October 1, police were called to a report of a van on fire on Russell Drive, Ayr.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“There were no reported injuries.

“The incident is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0156 of Thursday, 1 October or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
