Police have launched an investigation into the death of an otter pup.

The cub died after becoming trapped in an illegal snare in the Carron Valley forest area near Kilsyth.

The animal was discovered on Monday, January 24.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Lanarkshire Police Division are appealing for the public’s help after an otter pup was found to have succumbed to injuries sustained from being trapped in an unauthorised snare in the Carron Valley forest area near Kilsyth on Monday, January 24.

“If you have any information regarding this incident or know of anyone involved in the setting of unauthorised snares anywhere in Lanarkshire, please contact Airdrie’s community policing team.”
