Police have issued a plea for information following a serious crash on the A77.

The collision, involving a black Vauxhall Corsa and a grey Volkswagen Golf, happened at the junction with the B7045 near Minishant just before 4pm on Thursday.

Emergency services attended and a 62-year-old woman was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow while a 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock.

The road was closed for about seven hours and was re-opened at around 12.55am.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw the crash and has not already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
