Police in Paisley are searching for the source of “loud banging sounds” heard at various times.

Officers said they had carried out enquiries but hadn’t been able to completely confirm where the noise is coming from.

They said reports suggest the sounds have been heard at different times in recent days in the Glenburn area of the town.

Although they haven’t tracked down the source, police believe it may be a “pest scaring device”.

There are various such products that emit loud bangs when activated for sale.

Police made an appeal to anyone using “a bird scarer or similar device in the area” to get in touch by calling 101, quoting reference 1597 of November 14.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We have had not had any reports to suggest any criminality.”
