Police are hunting two men in their 60s after a man suffered a serious head injury in an attack outside a shop in West Dunbartonshire.

The incident took place outside a Scotmid store in the Main Street area of Renton on Tuesday evening.

A 39-year-old man sustained a serious head injury in the attack and was taken to the Royal Alexandria Hospital for treatment.

Detectives in Clydebank are now seeking two suspects, thought to be in their 60s, who left in the direction of Renton train station.

The men are both described as being of medium build, with shaved heads and wearing sunglasses.

One was wearing a black t-shirt with a yellow logo and carrying a black rucksack and light-coloured carrier bag.

The other man was wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and had a lanyard round his neck. He had a white carrier bag.

Detective Constable Aislinn MacLeod, of Clydebank CID, said: “This appears to have been a random attack and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.

“In particular we would like to speak to the two men described and if anyone knows them, or the men themselves see this appeal, then please get in touch.

“The area was busy at the time with people in the store so if you saw anything, or were driving in the area and have dashcam that could help with our investigation, then please contact us.”

Anyone with information should get in touch with officers via 101, quoting incident number 3655 of Tuesday, July 12, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
