Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted on a train between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The incident occurred on January 13 between 4.15pm and 5pm on a train between Glasgow Queen Street and Haymarket stations.

British Transport Police (BTP) say a male passenger sat beside a female passenger and repeatedly touched her leg with his leg.

He then put his hand underneath his newspaper and touched the victim in her left leg with his hand.

The woman then tried to move her body towards the window but the man again moved his legs to become pressed against hers.

When the train arrived at Linlithgow, the woman got up and changed seats and later got off at Haymarket while the man stayed on the train.

BTP are appealing for information into the incident and have released a description of the individual they believe is connected to the incident.

The man is described as Asian, tall and of a medium build with black hair. He was wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans and was carrying a newspaper.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by calling 0800 40 50 40 or by texting 61016 – with reference 2300004611.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
