Police are looking to trace a man who was wearing a balaclava near the scene of a firebomb attack on a house in South Lanarkshire.

The incident took place on Common Green in Strathaven when an item was thrown at the house at around 8.15pm on Thursday.

There were no reports of any injuries and a small fire caused by the incident was extinguished soon after..

Investigating officers have revealed they are keen to trace a man who was seen on CCTV in the area and wearing a full face balaclava or similar around the time of the incident.

He is described as being of slim build and wearing a grey North Face jacket with the hood up.

He was last seen on Waterside Street heading towards the junction with Barn Street and Green Street.

Enquiries are ongoing and the force are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch.

Detective Sergeant Graham McAdam said: “There were people in the area at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who saw anything or anyone matching the description above to contact us.”
