Police found woman allegedly murdered by partner 'with severed mouth'

A woman allegedly murdered by her partner was found with a severed mouth and her face almost hanging off, a court heard today.

Brodie MacGregor, 23, is stated to have been killed by Alexander Brennan, 54, at her flat in Glasgow’s Springburn on August 26, 2024.

Prosecutors claim Brennan punched and slapped Brodie.

The murder charges goes on to state Brennan also repeatedly struck her on the head and body with glass bottles, some of which were broken, as well as hitting her with a microwave plate.

Brennan is further said to have inflicted blunt force trauma injuries by means unknown.

A detective sergeant gave evidence at the High Court in Glasgow on day two of the trial.

The DS told jurors that he arrived at Brodie’s flat in the morning of her alleged murder.

The court was referred to a picture of a blood smear on a door handle. There were further references to spotting in a bath.

The detective sergeant stated that Brodie was face down on the floor of the living room with “extensive injuries” to her head.

She was claimed to have blood on her face and neck.

Jurors were also told that there was blood on the living room chairs.

The DS said: “There was a lot of blood spraying which extends to the ceiling.

“This was one that stood out for me and will stay with me forever.”

The detective sergeant stated that there was broken glass on the floor which included a Buckfast bottle.

Jurors were shown a picture of Brodie on the floor.

Prosecutor Alan Parfery asked the witness what he saw, and he replied: “It looks like her mouth has been severed completely.

“Her face more or less was hanging off.”

The jury were later shown various CCTV clips of a man assessed to be Brennan on the day of the murder.

A detective constable commented on footage from 9.55am, in which Brennan is alleged to be making a phone call.

Jurors had previously heard that Brennan made a 999 call at 9.57am.

The DS stated the figure boarded a train from Springburn, which was headed to Camelon in the Falkirk area at 10.30am.

At 11.16am, the figure – assessed to be Brennan – is stated to have purchased something from a shop in Falkirk.

The final CCTV clip from 12pm the next day is claimed to be Brennan in a Waitrose in Stirling, purchasing an item.

CCTV was also shown of Brodie on the morning of her alleged murder on a phone and using an ATM near her home.

A detective constable stated to the court that she recovered blood-stained jeans from a recycling bin or clothing bank near Brodie’s flat.

Jurors had previously been told that Brennan was spotted on CCTV putting a dark coloured item in a clothing bank on the morning of the alleged murder.

The trial continues tomorrow before Judge Lord Scott.
