Jamie Cannon: Police confirm body found is missing man

Jamie's body was found in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire, more than nine months after he went missing.

A body discovered by police in North Ayrshire has been confirmed as missing man Jamie Cannon.

Jamie, from Saltcoats, vanished from his hometown on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

A massive search operation got under way to find him, with police and members of the public looking across North Ayrshire and further afield.

Officers said they had discovered a body in the Ardeer area of Stevenston on Saturday afternoon and that Jamie’s family had been informed.

Jamie’s mum, Lynne Cannon, has paid tribute to her son on social media.

The post on Facebook, shortly after police confirmed it was Jamie’s body, said: “It is with great sadness and heavy heartache that we can now confirm the passing of Jamie Cannon.

“I would like to ask at this time if everyone could give our family and friends time to come to terms in the loss of my beautiful & handsome boy Jamie.

“Forever heartbroken.”

Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the body recovered in the Ardeer area of Stevenston, on Saturday, February 26, has been identified as Jamie Cannon, who was reported missing from Saltcoats in May 2021.

“Jamie’s family have been made aware and are being supported by officers. They have requested privacy and our thoughts remain with them at this time.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
