An investigation has been launched after two strangers walked into a school in Glasgow during class time.

Police were called to Cleveden Secondary School on Monday morning after two people were found to have been on the premises for a “very brief period”.

It’s believed a pupil let the individuals into the building after morning break.

The school has written to parents urging them to remind their children of the “importance of building security” while police investigate the anti-social behaviour.

In an email seen by STV News, the school said: “We will be reminding our pupils about the importance of building security, and I would be very grateful if you could discuss this with your child emphasise to them the importance of keeping our building secure.

“In keeping with national guidance on school security, all our exterior doors lock. However, they of course can be opened from the inside, and this what we believe happened today.

“Today, no harm was caused. We will be speaking to all pupils about the potential seriousness of an incident such as this tomorrow however, and your support in this matter would be much appreciated.”

Police Scotland has confirmed an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

A spokesperson said: “Around 11.30am on Monday, January 13, we received a report of anti-social behaviour involving youths in the Cleveden Road area of Glasgow.

“Officers attended and there was no ongoing incident. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

Glasgow City Council confirmed that an incident did take place and stated that school staff also have a role in being vigilant.

A local authority spokeswoman said: “Everyone at the school is fine and our schools take school building security very seriously.

“All school doors have security entry and young people are being reminded about opening doors to strangers.

“The school informed parents of the incident and reassured them everyone was safe.

“Police were contacted.”
