SuppliedPlans to “enhance” Glasgow’s SEC campus, which would include a new floating platform on the Clyde, have been unveiled.
The proposals would see 64 acres of space, which is currently used for parking, developed into a “new city quarter” with shops and bars.
Images of the proposed new look show a floating platform on the Clyde,and a new bridge going over the Clydeside Expressway. An image of a new car park is also visible in the document.
The plans, shared on Invest Glasgow, say the development “represents the next phase in the evolution of the SEC”.
It also says the investment will turn a “vibrant new urban district” in the city into a future-facing neighbourhood.
SuppliedThe proposals have not been submitted as of yet. It is said that the expansion will be made up of private funding, and development partnerships.
The SEC Centre, SEC Armadillo, and OVO Hydro hold over 269 performances, 52 conferences, and 55 exhibitions each year.
Owners said turnover for the year to the end of March 2025 was £54.4m.
The planning document read: “This development has a dual purpose.
“Firstly, it will expand and enhance the core SEC offer, strengthening its position as a leading international destination for events, conferences, and live entertainment. Secondly, it will establish a vibrant new urban district for Glasgow – one that integrates living, working, culture, and leisure into a cohesive, future-facing neighbourhood.
“The vision responds to the evolving context of the city and the River Clyde waterfront, aligning with emerging trends in placemaking, sustainability, and experiential destinations.
“D-SEC will create a dynamic environment that is active year-round, attracts global audiences, and fosters local community engagement – positioning the SEC as both a world-class venue and the heart of a new city quarter.”
