Plans are underway to transform Buchanan Bus Station into a “vibrant new gateway” to Glasgow, according to the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
The long-term masterplan will focus on creating a modern transport hub at the heart of the area, while improving the public realm and integrating the station more closely with its surroundings.
The proposals aim to “enhance the experience” for all travellers and make better use of the site.
SPT is working in partnership with Glasgow City Council and has appointed consultancy firms AtkinsRéalis and New Practice to lead the development of the masterplan.
The project is taking a place-based approach, considering future land use options that complement an upgraded transport hub.
Officials say the masterplan will look at potential changes to the bus station itself, the surrounding streets and public spaces, and how the area interacts with neighbouring locations.
SPT has called on the public and key stakeholders to provide feedback on the early proposals as the plans continue to take shape.
A spokesperson for SPT said: “We want to ensure that the future of Buchanan Bus Station meets the needs of everyone who uses it and supports the wider area’s regeneration.”
