Proposals to transform a city centre office space into a pilates studio have been submitted to the council’s planning department.

Pointe Ahead Pilates has been operating since 2013 in Edinburgh with 15 teachers and is now looking to expand its fitness community into Glasgow by creating a welcoming space for clients.

If approved, they will also offer various training courses for those interested in becoming a pilates teacher at the new studio at 24 St Vincent Place.

In a supporting statement issued to Glasgow City Council, the applicant states that they expect to have around five teachers.

Within the space there will be a principle studio offering eight pieces of reformer equipment for reformer pilates, a private studio with a cadillac, two reformers and two chairs and barrels as well as a waiting area that can accommodate up to six people.

Pointe Ahead is looking to cater for one to two people in its private studio and up to eight people in the former studio for either group classes or training courses.

The studio, which is situated in a grade A listed building and was one of Scotland’s first red sandstone buildings, will operate between 7am and 9pm between Monday to Friday and 8am until 7pm at the weekend.

In their statement, the applicants said: “To enhance the community feel, we will run occasional social events where clients can join taster classes to experience the various equipment.

“The property is well served by public transport routes from all parts of the City and from further afield, being within short walking distance to Queen Street and Central stations. On street parking and car parking is readily available within surrounding streets for any car users.

“The proposed Change of Use from Office to Pilates Studio is no real change from the numbers of people or level of noise.”
