Plans to convert a pub in Rutherglen into a fast food takeaway have been submitted to the council.

The vacant Stirrup Cup Bar on the town’s Main Street could be turned into a takeaway shop if plans are approved by South Lanarkshire Council.

The application was received by the local authority on March 28 and validated on April 2.

If given the go-ahead, minor alterations will be made to the existing building including the erection of a flute with a carbon filtration system.

No proposals were submitted for extra parking for customers to the potential takeaway.

Neighbourhood consultation for the plans kicked off on Tuesday and will end on May 2 with standard consultation beginning today and ending on April 25.

The deadline for determining the application is June 4.
