New houses could be built beside Silverburn shopping centre as a major developer applies for planning permission.

Persimmon wants to construct 139 houses on the empty land, which sits east of the M77 motorway. The developer has already built about 500 homes in the area around the site.

The latest development is to be a mixture of detached, semi and terraced homes offering two, three and four bedrooms.

The plans have sparked a number of objections and supporting comments.

One objector raised concerns over the loss of greenery and trees while another was against opening up Northwood Close as a “through-road.”

Another resident said the site is home to a family of deer and the “this area is already densely populated and the roads are extremely busy”.

A design statement submitted on behalf of the applicant said: “Our vision is to create a high-quality and attractive residential environment, which ties in with the established development to the north. The site’s highly accessible location, within close proximity to Pollok Town Centre, will ensure future residents can meet their daily needs using sustainable modes of transport.”

The development entrance would be at Boydstone Road and Northwood Close with parking available at the side or front of homes or in rear courtyards. Visitor parking will be available on the street.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application to Glasgow City Council said: “The applicant has built approximately 500 homes in the area surrounding the site, and this work started in 2016. Sales of these existing homes have been extremely popular since their inception. The proposed development is considered a logical opportunity to continue the momentum of house building in the immediate area.”

Glasgow City Council is considering the application.
