Plans for the “biggest” Asian supermarket in Glasgow have been approved on the site of a former Tesco.

The 10,000 sqm unit at the Forge Retail Park is to be transformed into a supermarket and food hall by retailers Longdan (The Home of Asia).

The supermarket aims to open its first store in Scotland at the retail park and claims around 300 full time and part-time jobs could be created.

The store is set to open seven days a week between 8am and 10pm, with a 200-seat food court open between 10am and 10pm every day.

It will house two in-store restaurants offering dim sum and vegetarian food, after Tesco vacated the site in 2022.

Longdan said in a statement to planners: “The purpose of this project is to build a one-stop destination for Asian goods and services in Glasgow.

“Whether it be groceries, dining or entertainment, the premises will provide a place for the Scottish public to experience a harmonious fusion of Asian culture and Scottish products.

“The restaurants and stores are dedicated to preserving Asian traditional values while elevating their elegance.”
