Plans have been revealed to transform a betting office in Glasgow into the city’s first farm-to-fork restaurant.

The proposals for the London Road property would see it become an art gallery supported by a coffee shop and wine bar.

The project, named Outlier, would also host a bakery producing cakes, pastries and breads and a “fermentation lab”.

The team behind Outlier has already secured ten acres of land outside of Houston, in Renfrewshire, to grow its own vegetables, grains and herbs to supply the kitchen and bakery.

38 London Road, Glasgow.

The farm would “guarantee” access to pesticide free organic produce, the plans state, and would open up training opportunities for groups and local schools.

The plans state: “This in turn would also afford Outlier the title of being Glasgow’s first farm-to-fork kitchen.”

As well as inviting the public to see art exhibitions, workshops, performances and screenings, Outlier also hopes to welcome them to a landscaped dining garden beside the wine bar.

The planning application submitted to the council read: “Outlier is an exciting project that looks to extend Glasgow’s creative scene to the doorstep of the Calton area, linking the Merchant City with the neighbouring East End.”

Funding for the gallery will come from the kitchen and bar with additional cash coming from Creative Scotland.
