Plans have been submitted for a new boutique hotel at a former clothing store in Glasgow on behalf of a private investor.
Proposals have been drawn up to transform a prominent 1929 Art Deco building on Sauchiehall Street, known to residents as the C&A building.
The former home of the Irish retail brand chain Dunnes Stores has remained vacant since 2017.
Glasgow-based architects Haus have revealed designs for a 132-bedroom hotel with an entrance on Cambridge, with commercial use along Sauchiehall Street.
Streets UKThe plans also feature a bar and restaurant, and an integrated three-storey extension with a rooftop terrace.
Co-founder of Haus, Murray Henderson, believes the “significant building” holds “memories for generations of Glaswegians”.
He added: “Our approach has been shaped by a respect for its architectural character, historic significance, and prominent role within the city centre.
“The proposals are founded on a conservation-led strategy that prioritises the retention, repair and adaptation of the existing building.
Story UK“Rather than replacing what is already here, we are seeking to give the building a sustainable new future that supports the ongoing renewal of Sauchiehall Street while celebrating its distinctive Art Deco heritage.”
An information event will be held on June 17 at Edward House to allow members of the public to view the proposals.
A planning application is expected to be submitted in late summer.
