However, NHS Lanarkshire said patients face “major disruption”. The health board has urged patients to attend scheduled appointments on Thursday afternoon and Friday as planned.

Patients have been asked to only contact their GP practices if it is an emergency, as work is carried out to reschedule missed appointments.

The Scottish Ambulance Service was called to the scene at around 10am.

An ambulance and special operations team attended the scene. Medical crews took an individual to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson said: “We received a call today at 10.05am to attend an incident on Victoria Street in Blantyre.

“We dispatched one ambulance and our special operations team to the scene. We transported one patient to Hairmyres Hospital.”
