A person has died after being hit by a train in North Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to an area of the line close to Blairhill railway station at around 8.10am on Tuesday.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Blairhill railway station at around 8.10am today, Tuesday, November 12, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”

ScotRail said that services running on this route will be subject to delays or cancellations, and eight buses are currently shuttling between Shettleston and Bathgate to connect passengers with train services.
