A pensioner has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a bus in Glasgow.

The 72-year-old is receiving care at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in the city following the incident on Govan Road shortly after 3pm on Friday.

Emergency crews locked down the busy road for more than an hour after the collision with all traffic being diverted away from the area.

Police said the man was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and remains in a “serious” condition.

An investigation into the incident has now been launched.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a pedestrian having been hit by a bus on Govan Road, Glasgow around 3.15pm on Friday, September 2.

“A 72-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
