A pensioner who died in a crash on an Ayrshire road that left a further two people in a serious condition in hospital has been named.

Police were called to the A76 near Catrine after receiving reports of a Vauxhall Crossland being involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Corsa at around 7.15pm on Wednesday.

Robert Young, known as Bobby, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene by attending emergency services.

A 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow in a serious condition.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart from Ayrshires Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are very much with Robert’s family at this very difficult time.

“Our investigations are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone with any information which may assist to contact us.”
