Pensioner dead after struck by Land Rover as police launch appeal

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a pensioner was struck by a SUV in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to Bothwell Road, Hamilton, at around 8.50am on Wednesday after a 75-year-old man was struck by a grey Land Rover Discovery.

The man was pronounced dead, and his family has been made aware.

The road was closed in both directions as crash investigations took place.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses to the crash to get in touch.

Police sergeant John Houston from the Road Policing Unit said : “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

“No one else was injured.

“North and southbound carriageways were closed for around four hours to allow crash investigations to be carried out

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place, to contact us. We are also keen to obtain any dashcam from motorists driving on the road around the time of the crash.

“I would like to thank members of the public for their patience while we carried out our investigation into this serious collision.”
