Pensioner dies in hospital after blaze rips through flat  

Emergency services were called to the property on Thursday evening after a fire broke out in Dumbarton.

A pensioner has died following a fire at a property in West Dumbartonshire.

Emergency services were called at around 7.45pm on Thursday, June 2, to a flat in Round Riding Road, Dumbarton.

A 72-year-old man was taken to hospital where he sadly died a short time later.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire, however police enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 72-year-old man has died following a fire in Dumbarton on Thursday, June 2.

“Around 7.45pm on Thursday evening, police were called to a fire at a flat in Round Riding Road. 

“A 72-year-old man was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. 

“A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
