A pensioner has died after being found unresponsive in a Land Rover by the side of the road in Dumfries.

Emergency services were called to the A710 near Islesteps around 11.55am on Thursday, where the 93-year-old man named William Barbour was found inside a black Land Rover Discovery Sport which had left the roadside.

He was rushed by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal infirmary, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to get in contact.

Sergeant Neil Moffat from Road Policing said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

“We believe the black Land Rover Discover Sport was travelling northbound on the A710 at the time and are appealing for any motorists, particularly with dash-cams, who were on the road and may have seen the vehicle involved.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1371 of Thursday, October 5, 2023.”
