A patient has died and three ambulance staff are in hospital after a crash in Glasgow.

The collision, which also involved a car, occurred on Balmore Road in the city shortly before 9pm on Tuesday evening.

A patient on board the emergency vehicle which crashed was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary via a second ambulance. He later died due to a medical matter.

Two Scottish Ambulance Service staff members were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A student paramedic was also transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Officers have arrested the driver of the car, a 49-year-old man in connection with a road traffic offence. An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, we were called to a report of a crash involving a car and an ambulance on Balmore Road, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and there were no injuries reported. A male patient who was within the ambulance later died in hospital following a medical matter.

“The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries are ongoing.”
