Hundreds of student flats are set to be built in Glasgow City Centre as part of an “exciting” new restoration of the River Clyde area.
Developer Valeo Management Europe has submitted the application for around 500 student rooms and a ground floor shop on Carrick Street, Broomielaw.
The planning application is aimed at regenerating the brownfield site, currently home to the vacant headquarters of GAP Group, and will complement the ongoing wider regeneration of the River Clyde Waterfront.
The development will also provide a flexible commercial unit, proposed to serve the new and growing community in Broomielaw.
Alongside it will be an integration into the design of the modern Glasgow City Mission building which had previously been earmarked for demolition.
A Proposal of Application Notice has been submitted to Glasgow City Council, kickstarting a 12-week minimum consultation period – the first of which taking place on June 18, from 3pm to 7pm at Box Hub.
David Saunders, managing director, Valeo Management Europe, said: “We are delighted to bring forward plans for new purpose-built student accommodation in Glasgow City Centre.
“The Broomielaw and wider River Clyde Waterfront is undergoing significant transformation, and we hope that our plans will go somewhere to supporting this transition as well as providing much needed student rooms in Glasgow.
“We look forward to engaging with local residents and other interested parties over the coming months as we develop our exciting new plans for Carrick Street.”
