Glasgow has approved over 40 new Voi e‑bike locations after “record usage” following the cycle hire scheme’s launch last year.
The additional stations across the city have been announced after more than 282,000 rides were recorded since the scheme launched in November.
The new stations will initially operate as geo‑fenced ‘virtual’ locations, enabling rapid deployment without ground markings.
While markings will be installed over the coming weeks, Glasgow City Council says the flexible approach quickly increases the availability of e‑bikes for hire at high‑demand locations.
The new locations also aim to expand off‑hire capacity, making journeys easier for riders.
Each new Voi station has been positioned near an existing high‑demand point.
The council says the expansion reduces walking distance for users if a primary station is full but also helps ensure bikes are available where demand is strongest.
The Voi app has been updated to display all new on‑hire and off‑hire points, with photographs included to help riders easily identify each location on arrival.
Additional virtual stations are being introduced weekly, enabling the network to respond quickly to demand and continually improve availability across the city.
