Over 120 homes to be built at Athletes’ Village in second phase of developmentGCC

Over 120 new homes are to be built at Dalmarnock’s Athletes’ Village with work due to begin as early as August.

In the second phase village, 125 homes will be built – Cruden will build the 67 homes for sale, with CCG building the 58 homes for social rent at the same time.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

A councillor has welcomed the move as the vacant land has been hit by fly-tipping.

Speaking at a meeting yesterday, convenor for housing, councillor Ruairi Kelly said: “Everybody is quite keen to see the development commence especially as some of the site has been subject to a lot of flytipping causing antisocial behaviour in the area for local residents.”

Explaining the timeline for construction, a council official said: “Cruden and CCG were looking to try and get on site in August of this year.

“That would be for construction enabling works such as utilities diversions, connections and any earthworks etc. They were looking at between August this year and March of next year to complete those. They are talking between 18 months to 30 months for the development period.”

Councillors approved a variation in the development agreement to allow City Legacy Ltd to sublease to Cruden and CCG at the contracts and property committee yesterday.

Councillor Kelly added after the meeting: “This is great news for Dalmarnock and for the East End. Work can soon begin to build over 100 much-needed homes for both sale and social rent, building on the remarkable regeneration of this neighbourhood and transforming a site that has been vacant for some time.”

The variation will allow Cruden to access available funding for the social housing.
