A Glasgow teacher who was struck off after creating an OnlyFans account is among seven businesses fined for deliberately defaulting on their taxes.
Kirsty Buchan received numerous complaints from parents and resigned from her position as a physics teacher at Bannerman High School in Baillieston in December 2022.
She was later banned from the profession for two years by the General Teaching Council after they determined she brought “the teaching profession into disrepute.”
The ex-teacher has since been fined £25,189.28 by the HMRC for intentionally defaulting on £38,902.37 of tax between April 6, 2022 and April 5, 2023.
She is among six businesses named as deliberate tax defaulters by the HMRC in November.
Wei Quinn, which formerly traded as The Woks Cookin Chinese takeaway in Glasgow, has received a penalty of more than £200,000 after defaulting on £289,860.04 worth of taxes between April 6, 2016 to April 5, 2022.
Glasgow-based mechanic Go Diesel was found to have defaulted on £187,491.44 worth of taxes between April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2020.
The company was issued a penalty of £93,745.71.
Barbara Paterson, who sold online gift and card sales from a location in Fife, has been fined £45,905.09 after she defaulted £54,648.94 of tax
Three other individuals who operated businesses in both Glasgow and Edinburgh were fined a total of £65,394.89 for deliberately failing to pay taxes.
Kevin Hubbard, HMRC’s director of individuals and small business compliance, said: “We are committed to tackling those who deliberately default on the tax they owe and creating a level playing field for businesses.
“By publishing the names of deliberate defaulters and their penalties, we send a clear message that non-compliance has consequences.”
