One person taken to hospital following crash near M74 slip road in Rutherglen

One person has been transported to hospital following a crash near an M74 slip road in Rutherglen.

The crash occurred at around 11.20am on Tuesday at Junction 2 of the M74, where it connects with Cambuslang Road.

Police said: “Cambuslang Road is closed between the slip road off the M74 at J2 and the roundabout at Hamilton Road following a crash around 11.25am on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

“Emergency services are in attendance, and motorists are asked to avoid the area and use an alternative route.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) confirmed one person had been taken to hospital.

A spokesperson said: “We received a call at 11.23 hours to attend an incident on the M74. We dispatched one ambulance and a critical care team to the scene.

“We transported one patient to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

According to Traffic Scotland, road restrictions are still in place in the area as of 5pm.
