Irish chain Omniplex has announced it will move into the world’s tallest cinema in Glasgow.
The company announced it had taken ownership of the building on Renfrew Street, just months after Cineworld was evicted after 20 years of operations.
Omniplex announced that “extensive” renovations will begin in the coming months, with the cinema expected to reopen in the summer of 2026.
Renovations will include fully reclining auditoriums with upgraded laser projection and sound, as well as three giant “OmniplexMAXX” screens featuring Barco 4K Laser projection and Dolby Atmos sound.
OmniplexOmniplex first opened its doors to customers in Ireland in 1991 and has since amassed a total of 382 screens across 47 cinema locations.
It said recruitment for new roles at the Renfrew Street cinema will begin in the coming months.
Paul John Anderson, director of Omniplex Cinemas, said: “The Renfrew Street cinema is one of Glasgow’s most iconic cultural landmarks and a cornerstone of the wider UK cinema industry.
