Emergency services were called to a secondary school in Ayr following reports of a child with a knife.

The incident occurred at Belmont Academy on Monday, where a campus police officer is based.

The child believed to be in possession of the bladed weapon was traced. A report is due to be submitted to the relevant authorities.

Officers offered advice, and work is continuing with partners in relation to the incident

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Monday, November 24, 2025, we received a report of a child being in possession of a knife in a school in Ayr.

“The child was traced in connection and a report will be submitted to the relevant authorities.

“Suitable advice was given and police are working with partners in relation to the matter.”

A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council added: “We are aware of an incident which took place at a school in Ayr on Monday November 24.

“The situation was managed calmly and swiftly by the school’s senior team and the campus police officer, and all pupils and members of staff are safe.

“The safety and wellbeing of our pupils remains our priority. Appropriate safeguarding measures are in place, and we continue to uphold a safe and supportive environment for our young people.”
