A nursery has said it is “deeply shocked and saddened” after a baby and two toddlers were seriously injured after a detached trailer struck a pram in Dumfries.

Emergency services attended the scene of the crash on Pleasance Avenue around 3.15pm on Monday afternoon.

The trailer is believed to have become detached from a Mitsubishi Outlander car before striking the pram, which was being pushed on the pavement.

An eight-month-old baby, a 14-month-old toddler and an 18-month-old toddler were all taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, before later being transferred to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.

Their injuries are described as serious.

STV News understands an 18-year-old woman, who was pushing the pram at the time of the incident, is a staff member at nearby Gracie Drew Nursery.

The teenager was also taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Gracie Drew Nursery said it was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the incident involving three of its children.

The nursery is situated near the scene of the incident on Pleasance Avenue.

A spokesperson for the nursery said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic accident involving three of our beloved children.

“Our hearts are with them and their families during this incredibly difficult time.

“The safety and well-being of the children in our care is always our highest priority, and we are cooperating fully with the authorities as they investigate what happened.”

Sergeant David Kerr, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone who have witnessed it to come forward.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.”
