North Lanarkshire has announced a 10% increase to council tax.
A nationwide freeze ends in April meaning local authorities across Scotland can increase the levy by however much they like.
The increase voted through by councillors in North Lanarkshire means that people in Band D households will pay £323.59 more a year and those in Band A will pay £88.05 more.
The council set its budget for the 2025/26 financial year on Thursday and said “there would be no cuts to services” as it announced the biggest council tax increase so far in Scotland – matching the 10% rise in East Lothian.
The council said that in recent years it has set aside the first 1% of any increase to council tax for its community investment fund, to pay for new schools and hubs, and investment in leisure, infrastructure and other facilities.
This year, the council agreed to set aside the first 2% to increase investment in these areas.
Other investment agreed as part of the budget included three new community hubs to be built in Glenboig, Ravenscraig and Cumbernauld’s Abronhill.
