North Ayrshire Council have racked up almost £300,000 on repairing potholes on the region’s roads during the current financial year.

Irvine is the main culprit for the hugely unpopular road obstructions, which are a talking point among drivers and residents in the community.

The information was released to the Local Democracy Reporting Service following a Freedom of Information request to the council.

In all, £281,625.32 has been spent on patching up roads from April 1 until June 28.

More than £2,000 has been shelled out by the authority on damage claims from potholes.

From January 1 until June 27, the council have paid £2,502.57 in relation to claims for damage due to potholes.

The top roads where potholes were reported in 2023-24 were all in Irvine with 36 on Kilwinning Road, 26 on Towerlands Road, 24 on Shewalton Road, 22 on East Road, and 20 on Long Drive.

For 2024-25 so far up to June 28, 16 potholes have been reported on the Greenwoood Interchange, Irvine.

Fourteen potholes have been reported on the A71 Warrix Interchange to Corsehill Mount Roundabout, Dreghorn.

There were 10 apiece on the C147 from A841 to Main Street Pirnmill, Lochranza, Isle of Arran; the C147 Main Street, Blackwaterfoot, Arran; Long Drive, Irvine and the U85 King Cross Road, Whiting Bay, Arran.
